pre-departure processes

ALA Scholarship Award & ALA fellowship Award

You will be briefed by MASP staff prior to your departure. This briefing will be conducted with other scholarship candidates as one group. The emphasis placed upon pre-departure training depends upon the length of the Scholarship.

Introductory briefing by the MASP Deputy Program Manager

This is designed to provide you with an overview of your scholarship program. 
 
Briefing by the MASP Placement Staff

The MASP Placement staff will talk about the university placement process as well as provide information to you on the required medical examination and visa application process. The ALA candidate is required to take responsibility for the university placement process and MASP will provide the candidate with an allowance to undertake the necessary functions. MASP will provide support when needed by the candidate. For efficiency visa applications and medical examinations are coordinated by MASP with visa applications for all candidates bulked and sent to DIAC Beijing by MASP. The passports are collected by MASP from the embassy when visa are provided and distributed to candidates. www.immi.gov.au/allforms/application-forms.
 
Application for Student Visa  to study in Australia

The visa form will be provided to you by the Placement staff. You should complete this form and return it to the MASP office, as advised by MASP Placement staff.

MASP will facilitate the arranging of the visa but the responsibility is the ALA candidate and an allowance is provided for this purpose. The ALA candidate is responsible for obtaining visa for accompanying dependants, however, MASP will facilitate the process.

Medical Examination

The ALA candidate is responsible for medical examinations. MASP will facilitate the process. An allowance is provided the ALA candidate for this purpose.

You must undertake a medical examination, and it must be performed by SOS MEDICA the Australian Embassy recognised doctors in Mongolia.  The results are valid for 12 months – it is recommended that you get this done as soon as possible.

  • The cost is the medical examination is the responsibility of the individual.
  • Two forms need to be filled out prior and provided to the doctor at the time of your examination.

The medical examination will require you to complete the X Ray Form (Form 160) and Medical Check-up Form (Form 26). These forms will be given to you at the briefing as mentioned above. These forms are to be completed and taken to SOS Medica.

The medical examination results will be forwarded directly to the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizen (DIAC) at the Australian Embassy by SOS Medica coordinated by MASP. 

If a medical problem is found, you will be contacted and a course of treatment recommended. It is your responsibility to undertake and pay for this treatment. In some cases your departure to Australia may be delayed or postponed as a result of this treatment. Spouse and children also have to undertake a medical check-up if they require a visa and are accompanying you. Note, children under 11 are not required to have an x-ray.

Applying for Passport for all Australian Leadership Awards

It is your responsibility to organise your passport.

Submit passport to MASP

  • It is your responsibility to obtain the necessary visas for yourself and your dependents. MASP will facilitate the process by assisting you in preparing the visa application forms and sending your applications with passports to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) office at the Australian Embassy in Beijing.  As visas take time you must commence the process well before your departure to Australia.

Visa issued and returned to MASP

  • When your visa has been issued by DIAC, it will be collected by MASP staff and made available to you.
  • Awardee collects passport and ticket.
  • Airline Tickets and passport will be available for collection at the MASP office. You will be responsible for organising and purchasing your airline tickets to Australia. An allowance will be provide by MASP for you to do this.

Awardee departs for Australia

  • Arrival date in Australia will be arranged prior to the start of the Introductory Academic Program (IAP) and MASP will notify the university of your arrival date.
